Check the skin barrier in 10 minutes, before you treat.
The FlexaDerm Barrier Kit gives estheticians and skin studios a handheld skin microscope, surface pH strips, sebum films and tape-strip samplers. Each client gets a dated, zone-by-zone record you can compare at the next visit.
Starter Kit from $389. Refills from $59 for 30 assessments.

Everything for a barrier check fits in one case
The kit uses methods common in cosmetic skin testing: magnified surface imaging, surface pH reading, sebum film absorption and adhesive tape sampling of the outer stratum corneum. You do not need a lab or a bench instrument to use it.

Cleanse and wait
Cleanse with water only and let the skin rest for 20 minutes in a room at 68 to 75 °F. The app logs room temperature and humidity with each record.
- 02
Strip, film, tape
Press a pH strip, a sebum film and a tape-strip sampler on each of the four zones. Each sampler is placed on its numbered card.
- 03
Image the surface
Take one 60x and one 200x image per zone with the microscope. Polarized mode cuts surface glare so flaking and texture are easier to see.
- 04
Record and compare
Enter the strip readings, grade the tape sample against the card, and save. At the next visit, the app shows both records side by side.
Zone 2: Cheek, left
What the kit records
- Surface pH per zone. Intact skin sits in a mildly acidic range; readings drifting higher are worth noting.
- Sebum film grade, 1 to 4.
- Scaling on the tape sample, graded 0 to 4 against the reference card.
- Magnified images of texture, flaking and visible redness.
What it does not do
- It does not measure TEWL (transepidermal water loss, in g/h/m²). If your studio has a TEWL or hydration meter, you can type its reading into the record.
- It does not diagnose eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis or any other condition.
- When a client shows signs of a skin condition, refer them to a dermatologist.
A cosmetic record, clearly labeled
FlexaDerm records how the skin surface looks and reads on the day of the visit. Use it to choose a gentler peel, skip extractions, or show a client how their skin changed over a course of treatments. Every exported report carries the line "Cosmetic assessment. Not a medical diagnosis."
Show clients what changed
Barrier readings move with weather, products and treatments. Because each record stores the same four zones, the same magnifications and the room conditions, a week 0 and week 4 comparison is a fair one. Export it as a one-page PDF for the client file.
